Her work is driven by a deep interest in how people think, learn, and interact across contexts.She received her Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she focused on applying cognitive science, neuroscience, and learning theories to practice, as well as on learning technology, promoting curiosity, integrating Universal Design for Learning (UDL), cultivating thinking dispositions, and conducting formative evaluations for educational products. She received her MFA in Communications Design from&nbsp;Pratt Institute, where her thesis research explored&nbsp;"Rediscovering the Role of Touch in Design." She also holds a Bachelor of Architectural Studies from The University of Melbourne in Australia.Sheerin previously worked as a Design Consultant at the Tianjin Juilliard School and a Senior Designer at GHD Partners. Prior to this, she served as an Exhibition Curator and Designer at the Red Dot Design Museum in Xiamen, and worked as an architectural designer at various design firms in China. During her time at Harvard, she worked as a Research Assistant at Project Zero. While pursuing her MFA at Pratt Institute, she served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Graphic Designer for the School of Design. As a designer and researcher, Sheerin is committed to creating human-centered, socially responsible, and inclusive learning experiences. Inspired by the island’s historic architecture and distinctive topographic contours, the visual system combines layered, high-contrast colors with geometric forms to create a contemporary, dynamic, and vibrant visual language. Across the posters and merchandise, the phrase “Welcome to Kulangsu” is expressed in fourteen different languages once used by residents of the island, evoking Kulangsu’s multicultural past and collective memory. The key visual elements are derived from Kulangsu’s mountainous coastal landscape, its colonial veranda architecture, window forms, and its cultural identity as the “Island of Pianos.” These elements are translated into a nostalgic and abstract graphic language applied throughout the visual system. Kulangsu has long been a renowned tourism destination. In our modern lives, we are constantly navigating between negative states that reflect disconnection from meaning and the self, while positive states offer a return to our essence through play, joy, and introspection. Guided by values of human-centered design, emotional awareness, and societal relevance, this work seeks to create a spatial experience that embodies these emotional contrasts, highlighting the connection between emotion, architecture, and the human experience. The core spatial form is inspired by the infinity loop, representing the perpetual interplay between positive and negative emotions. Inspired by the orchestral experience, this visual concept integrates a Chinese character "乐" and a conductor's baton, creating a dynamic fusion of traditional Chinese calligraphy and modern design elements. The festival includes 12 master classes, more than 250 hours of private lessons, recitals by distinguished artists, and multiple opportunities for student performances. The new brand identity evolves from the 2023 logo, which was inspired by the signature window elements of Tianjin Juilliard’s architecture. This updated version highlights bold geometric shapes, establishing a strong and recognizable visual mark. Dot Award: Communication Design 2018 — Speed and Warmness, was showcased at the Red Dot Design Museum Xiamen in April of 2019. This marked the first instance where the Red Dot Award: Communication Design showcased its comprehensive award-winning works in China. The exhibition featured over 700 award-winning works from 35 countries, exhibited through graphic images, physical objects, multimedia presentations, and interactive experiences. Notably, the exhibition presented 7 Red Dot: Grand Prix winners and 50 Red Dot: Best of the Best winners. Inspired by Dr. Peter Zec’s reflections on the 2018 Red Dot Award: Communication Design, I titled the exhibition Speed and Warmness (速度与温度). The exhibition seeks to capture the sense of “speed” through cutting-edge technological innovations and digital advancements, while also promoting the notion of “warmness” through diverse themes in communication design—ranging from social and cultural issues to human rights and environmental concerns—in order to raise public awareness of these pressing global topics.
